MADH was founded by Dr. Don Powers as a single practice in 1970. He was joined by Dr. John Firpo in 1973. The first home was in Shadeland Avenue, which was the site of the first dialysis unit in the area.
Soon after, MADH expanded into a multi-specialty group (Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Nephrology) covering hospitals including St. Agnes Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Roxborough Hospital, Delaware County Memorial Hospital.
By the 1980’s, MADH became a primarily renal practice. Dr. John Firpo retired in 2008 and the practice was then led by Dr. Sal Lofaro. Prior to his retirement in 2014, Dr. Lofaro had an illustrious career with clinical and political contributions with his active participation in the hospital setting as well as the medical societies.
MADH has grown in the past four years. Aside from DCMH, Springfield Hospital and Bryn Mawr Hospital, we are now on staff at Kindred Havertown, Paoli Hospital, Chester County Hospital and Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital. We cover dialysis clinics, both Fresenius and Davita, extending from Roxborough to West Chester.
The group has received recognition for services to the primary hospital (DCMH) as well as individual recognition by peers as Top Docs for both the Main Line Magazine and the Philadelphia Magazine.
